Baycrest is a global leader in geriatric residential living, healthcare, research, innovation and education, with a focus on brain health and aging.
With the support of the Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation, Baycrest will work to expand awareness and understanding of caregiving in Canada through the creation of three online learning modules that will serve as an introduction to the issue.
The online learning modules will be based on research-backed evidence, and Baycrest’s feedback and experiences in supporting caregivers. Most of us are, will be, or know someone who is a caregiver, and these tools will provide support and education about the type of assistance and knowledge that is needed.
- Module one includes information about engaging, identifying, and supporting the caregivers around us, and how to participate in helpful conversations.
- Module two is specifically for caregivers and will provide them an opportunity to learn about taking care of themselves while taking care of someone else. Caregivers will be provided with resources such as how to ask for help, guidance with common emotional responses, and how to identify their needs.
- Module three (to be released in 2021) focuses on equipping leaders in a corporate setting with resources to support their staff that are caregivers in their well-being and work commitments. Leaders will be given tools that clear the uncertainty around how to create an organization that recognizes the hardships faced by caregivers.
